Westside Sea Kayak Day Trip

Sea Kayaking Day Tours For those of you who would like to spend an entire day kayaking the wondrous beauty of our San Juan Island home, we invite you to join us on our Sea Kayaking Day Tour!

Enjoy beautiful views of Vancouver Island and Washington's Olympic Peninsula on one of our most popular kayak tours, taking you to the Westside of San Juan Island along Haro Strait.

This is one of the best places in the world for a chance to encounter pods of Orca Whales. The San Juan Islands and surrounding waters are home to the resident J, K and L pods of Orcas numbering over 80 animals. You will also see a vast array of other wildlife including; Dall's porpoise, bald eagles, harbor seals, great blue herons and minke whales.

Day Tour Itinerary

10:45am Check-in at our office located at 1 Spring St. in downtown Friday Harbor in the red building next to the Ferry Landing the day of your tour. Please see map at the bottom of this page.
11:00am Shuttle will pick up in front of shop and load for the launch location.
11:30am Estimated time of arrival at launch location. We will then unload kayaks, hand out all gear and go over safety and paddling techniques.
At this time we will then embark on our wonderful San Juan Day Tour. We will spend roughly 2 to 2.5 hours paddling along the coast taking rest breaks in kelp beds and discussing the natural history of the area. Stopping for lunch and rest at a wonderful beach location to relax and enjoy the beach side views. We will then load back into our kayaks and have a great time exploring as we make our way back to the location we launched.
4:00pm Back at the launch location we will load gear and kayaks the head for town
4:30pm This is the estimated time of our arrival back at our shop in downtown Friday Harbor. We do occasionally arrive back at the shop at 5:00pm, so please use the listed times if you are adhering to a tight schedule.

Discovery Sea Kayaks does not provide lunch on any of our single Day Kayak Tours. We feel that some people may want more than hummus and a bagel which you may find that some outfitters will offer. There are great places to purchase wonderful deli style sandwiches near our shop. Please bring a non-alcoholic beverage and any of your favorite snacks.

Sunset Sea Kayak Tour

End your day with the tranquility of our Island Sunset Sea Kayak Tour, a great way to unwind and experience the beauty of Northwest coastal waters! A Discovery Sea Kayaks Sunset Tour takes you out on the water at the end of the day when the sea is usually at its calmest, kayaking back just after the last rays set. As the sunsets enjoy the warm tones casted along the shoreline. Pacific Madrona tress take on vibrant colors. This time of day is especially nice as there is usually no one else on the water. So encounters with Orca Whales seem to beam with energy as you view them without the crowd of other kayaks. Seals move about the shore looking for food and Blue Herons search the kelp beds for one last meal before heading to roost.
