How To Get Here

San Juan Island

Discovery Sea Kayaks is located in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in the town of Friday Harbor, Washington State. The store front is an easy walk from the ferry on the main street of Friday Harbor at 260 Spring St. The shop is in the heart of downtown near the local grocery store Kings Market, Coffee Shops and Restaurants.

Having a shop in town makes it easy for those walking off the ferry to join a kayak tour or rent bikes.

Options From Seattle

1

Washington State Ferry

The ferry terminal located in Anacortes Washington is the departure point for San Juan Island.

Leaving from Seattle?

If you are driving from Seattle we recommend you allow 2.5 hours to arrive at the ferry terminal. This will allow enough time to arrive and pass through ferry lines. Traffic along I-5 can be very congested leaving Seattle, picking an off hour time to travel will ease the traffic issues.

Bringing a car or walking on?

If you plan to bring your car to the island you will need to make a reservation via the Washington State Ferry website. If you do not have a reservation you can arrive and wait stand-by.  If you plan on parking in Anacortes at the Ferry Terminal there will be a parking fee but walking on to the ferry is much easier and does NOT require a reservation.

Should I bring a car?

If you plan on being on the island for more than a day having your car can be nice. Most destinations are far from town and will require a type of transportation. If you are just coming over for the day or an overnight, then walking on is much easier. Do note there is plenty of transportation for hire on San Juan Island. Taxi’s, Car Rentals, Scooter Rentals and Bike Rentals are available downtown.

Flying to San Juan Island

Westwind Aviation

Westwind offers private charters from Boeing Field in the Seattle area. If you have a group of travelers looking for a quick way to get to San Juan then look into chartering a flight with Westwind. If you choose to fly with Westwind check out the flight and kayak tour package we offer.

Please visit Westwind Aviation’s website for details.

Kenmore Air

Kenmore offers several flights a day from the Seattle area. You can fly via a wheeled aircraft or a seaplane. This is by far the fastest way to arrive on the island. Flight times range from 35 minutes to 45 minutes. If you are arriving at SeaTac Kenmore offers transfers to their flight terminal at Boeing Field. Beyond being the fastest way to get to San Juan, it is an amazingly scenic flight. The airport in Friday Harbor is located just outside of town. Not a short walk, but completely doable. Taxi can provide transportation from the airport. Contact your hotel and see if they have a courtesy van that can pick you up.

Please visit Kenmore Airs website for details.

Shuttles From Seattle Airport

If you are flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SETAC), there are a couple of shuttle options to get to the ferry terminal in Anacortes Wa.

Bellair Islander Bus Charters have multiple charters all day and into the evening. Reservation can be made online at their website. The shuttle is not the fastest route to getting to San Juan but it is a very reliable way to get here. You will have to make one transfer in Burlington Washington to a small bus for the final leg to the ferry terminal.

Please visit Bellair Islander’s Charter Bus website for scheduling and details.

Island Airporter is a local business that makes the transit from San Juan Island to SEATAC daily. The bonus of the Island Airporter is it has priority loading on the Washington State Ferry to and from Anacortes Washington. The ferry ride is included in the price of the transit fare. This is a slightly faster transit than Bellair.

Please visit Island Airport’s website for scheduling and details.
