Full Day, Half Day, Sunset, and Bioluminescence kayak Tours

You will need a few things for your time on the water. We recommend non-cotton clothing if possible. We understand that may not be possible so we provide an outer shell (tops and bottoms) at no extra charge. For the Full Day Kayak Tour, you will want to arrive with a lunch for our beach stop. The following itemized list will help you choose what to bring.

  • Shoes you do not mind getting wet.
  • Water Bottle
  • Non-Cotton Clothing (*if possible)
  • Hat and Sunglasses for the sunny days.
  • Sunscreen
  • Paddling Gloves are optional. But if you are prone to blisters we recommend them.
  • Beanie, for the early and late season. (April-May and September)
  • Camera and Binoculars (Bring at your own risk)

We will provide all the paddling equipment you will need. We also offer a 10L dry bag, waterproof jacket, and pants (No extra charge).

*For Bioluminescence Kayak Tours you will want to add a headlamp to your gear list. The headlamp is only for after the tour when walking the dark beach as we return to the van.

It is important to note that you will need lodging for the evening when joining the Bioluminescence Kayak Tour. Our Bioluminescence Tour departures will arrive back in town too late to catch a ferry to the mainland. Please ensure you have lodging to avoid last-minute cancelation of the tour where there is no option for a refund.

Kayak Equipment on Overnight Kayak Tours

We will provide all the paddling equipment you will need. Each guest will get a 10L and 20L dry bag, waterproof jacket, and pants (No extra charge).

Kayaks & Paddling Gear

We use fiberglass tandem kayaks for all of our kayak tours. We select kayaks for comfort and efficiency. The kayak of choice is the Current Design Libra XT. The Libra XT is perfect for short kayak tours or longer expeditions. Our fleet has all Werner kayak paddles and Snap Dragon or Seal spray decks. We provide Seal Line dry bags for all kayaking tours, which are super durable. Life vests (personal floatation devices) are selected from Stohlquist and MTI Adventure Wear. We offer all guests waterproof jackets and pants from NRS. We love our gear and only choose to work with the best.

We have a downtown brick-and-mortar location where all of our kayaking tours originate. Our location is just a short walk from the ferry landing, in the heart of downtown Friday Harbor. Once you arrive at the shop we will provide transportation to the launch locations and back to town after the kayak tour.

Tipping Your Guide

It is always a nice gesture to trip your guides if you have a good time. It is always appreciated. There is a lot of work guides do, not just in set up and clean up. But in their personal time educating themselves to provide you with the best possible experience. Guides take care of your safety and on overnight kayak tours they have added responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning. We are often asked how much to tip their guide. Anywhere from 20 to 25% is what is typical, anything above that is great.
